Construction Observer
We are looking for a highway/bridge construction inspector with 3+ years of experience and a broad knowledge of construction materials and methods. Key responsibilities include computer skills, the ability to read and interpret plans and specifications, materials testing, construction observation to achieve compliance with contract documents, project documentation, preparing pay applications and change orders, and general administrative duties.  The ideal candidate is a motivated individual with the ability to stand for long periods of time, lift and carry field equipment and samples for testing.  Other desirable qualities include effective verbal and written communication skills, experience with KDOT’s CMS program, a working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and KDOT CIT certifications.  Must have a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license.  This position is anticipated to work full time as needed during the construction season with potential off-season furlough.

Mechanical Engineer - Buildings Group
We are looking for a mechanical engineer with 0 to 3 years of experience to support our Life Sciences Group (pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratories, healthcare) and our Critical Facilities Group (data centers and telecommunication centers). Candidate must have the desire to work with complex mechanical systems in a fast-paced environment. AutoCAD experience required. A BS in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering with a mechanical emphasis is a must. Previous internship experience with mechanical engineering projects a plus.

Electrical Engineer - Critical Facilities Group

We are looking for an entry-level electrical engineer for our Critical Facilities Group. This position will involve work on mission-critical (24x7 communications/data) and other types of industrial facilities. Occasional travel and overtime required. Candidate should have a desire to learn and be a part of a highly motivated team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities may include:

• Low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical power design
• Lighting design
• Specification writing
• Fault current and coordination studies
• Existing facility evaluations and studies
• Trouble shooting and commissioning

Individual should:
• Possess BSEE or Architectural Engineering degree

Engineer – Energy Group
We are looking for a mechanical or civil engineer to support our Energy Group. Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or civil engineering. Previous work or internship experience with construction projects a plus.
 
Candidates should have exceptional communication and writing skills. Position requires the ability to meet multiple deadlines, establish priorities and coordinate with others. Proficiency in the following software or the ability to learn quickly is required: Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD. Occasional travel and overtime required.

Civil Engineer – Transportation Group
We are looking for a candidate with 0-3 years of experience in the area of highways and roadways.
· Candidate’s career interest must be in the transportation area. 
· Candidate will participate in the design of: urban arterials; rural and urban interstate highways; city and county roadways. 
· Transportation internship work experience may assist in selection. 
· MicroStation/GeoPak experience helpful, but not required.

Electrical Commissioning Leader (PE)
We have a career opportunity available for a senior level engineer to lead our electrical commissioning efforts. This position will involve commissioning of mission-critical (24x7) facilities such as data centers, telecommunications centers, research facilities and critical production environments. We provide commissioning services on a national basis and therefore travel and some overtime are required. Candidate should have a desire to learn and be a part of a highly motivated team in a fast-paced environment.
Commissioning Responsibilities may include:

• Project management
• Supervision of assigned staff
• Design reviews
• Specification writing
• Preparation of test scripts
• Fault current and coordination studies
• Existing facility evaluations and studies and retro-commissioning
• Supervision of commissioning, testing and troubleshooting of complex electrical systems

• Have 7+ years of experience with an A/E firm or Electrical Contractor
• Ability to work with multiple project team members to accomplish project goals

• Have good knowledge of operational aspects of UPS systems, automatic transfer switches, paralleling switchgear, PLC controls and SCADA systems

Water Resources Engineer (PE)
We are looking for a licensed (in Kansas and/or Missouri) Water Resources Engineer. This individual must have a minimum of a B.S. degree in Civil or Environmental or Biological & Agricultural Engineering. This individual must have Water Resources related study and design experience (4 to 6 years), be highly motivated, have strong leadership skills and be someone who will work in a team environment. Responsibilities for the position include storm drainage design and studies, floodplain and watershed studies, BMP design, and environmental permitting. HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM or other related software as well as ArcView, Land Desktop, Civil 3D and MicroStation experience a plus.

Professional Traffic Engineer (PE)
We are searching for a highly motivated individual who is interested in becoming a trusted Professional Traffic Engineer on our Traffic Engineering and Transportation Planning team.

This individual would be expected to perform and direct others in some or all of the following activities:

• Analyses of traffic operations to determine levels of service
• Analyses of traffic crash data to determine correctable patterns
• Analyses to determine design traffic volumes
• Preparation of Traffic Impact Study (TIS) documents
• Preparation of Traffic Design Study documents
• Warrant studies to establish needs for traffic control devices
• Use of Travel Demand Modeling (TDM) software to determine traffic growth
• Use of traffic simulation modeling to produce detailed traffic operations data and graphics
• Conducting various inventories and evaluations of traffic controls and infrastructure
• Conducting in-field surveys and analyses of travel times, delays, driver behavior, etc.
• Layout and design of intersections and interchanges
• Layout and design of traffic signal, roadway lighting, and other traffic controls
• Layout and design of parking facilities
• Layout and design of ADA ramps and facilities at intersections and parking facilities

This individual must have the following minimum qualifications:

• State PE license recognized by NCEES
• 4 to 8 years professional experience working as a traffic engineer
• Working knowledge of traffic analysis software, including Synchro / SimTraffic and VISSIM
• Working knowledge of MS Office software (e.g., WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Experience using AutoCad and/or MicroStation CAD software
• Strong interest in Traffic Engineering / Transportation Planning
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

The following qualifications will be considered as a plus for a candidate:

• MSCE or related field
• PTOE certification
• Leadership in school, professional, church, and social organizations

Summer Internships
Mechanical Intern- We are looking for someone who has completed at least 3 years of their education towards an Architectural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering degree.  This individual must be interested in mechanical building systems. Candidate must have a working knowledge of AutoCAD. 
 
Electrical Intern-- We are looking for someone who has completed at least 3 years of their education towards an Architectural Engineering or Electrical Engineering degree with an interest in power, lighting and communications systems. A working knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred. 

Energy Intern-- Candidate must have knowledge or strong desire to work on consumer owned renewable energy projects, specifically wind turbines.
• Civil or mechanical engineering student
• Work throughout the summer and possible school year
• Assist with Resourceful Kansas energy audit reports
• Track energy intensive business contact information
• Research questions on the Kansas utility structure
• Track RFIs, file and document
• Track submittal progress, file and document
• Assist with the proposals and bids by calling vendors for quotes
• Solicit contractors to bid projects
• Track and organize current redlines
• Research tax incentives and financial funding sources pertaining to renewable energy
• Cold call public and private entities, organizations and vendors
• Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of entities

Candidate should be competent in Microsoft Word and Outlook. A strong background in Excel and the ability to work with spreadsheets is imperative.
 
Highways/Roadways Intern-- Applicant should be enrolled in the Civil Engineering program.  A strong interest in street, highway, and roadway design preferred. MicroStation/GeoPak experience helpful, but not required.
 
Bridge Group Intern-- Applicant should be enrolled in the Civil Engineering program and shall have completed coursework in the structural area.  Position could be office or field work related to the design of bridges.  A strong interest in bridge work preferred. MicroStation experience helpful, but not required.
 
Traffic Intern-- Applicant should be enrolled in the Civil Engineering program.  Looking for an individual with a strong interest in traffic work.  Applicant will be doing traffic studies and design of urban roadway improvements, including traffic signal and street lighting design.   Applicant needs to have good writing abilities. Experience using traffic engineer analysis software, AutoCAD and MicroStation a plus.

Civil or Biological & Agricultural Engineer—Water Environment (Internship to possible full-time employment)
Possible opportunity for a December 2011 or May 2012 graduate with 0-3 years of experience interested in the water environment field.  
• Responsibilities for the position include
• geomorphology & stream restoration study and design,
• storm drainage studies and design,
• floodplain and watershed studies,
• environmental permitting and water quality emphasis,
• field work and
• wastewater studies and design.
• Water internship work experience essential.
• Exp. with the following programs a plus: Land Desktop; Civil 3D; SWMM; HEC-HMS; ArcView; MicroStation; HEC-RAS.

Civil Engineer

Structural Engineer—Bridge Group Leader
We are looking for a Bridge Group Leader to develop a Bridge Design Group. This person will have to manage the investigation and design processes for bridge projects in Illinois. Some of the key roles will be to:

• Lead the bridge group
• Market for bridge projects
• Coordinate with the road design, waterway and drainage groups as projects require
• Have full project management responsibility including proposals, programming, technical control, financial control and client liaison

Requirements:

• A BSCE
• This individual must have an IL SE.
• At least 5 years of bridge related experience
• At least 5 years of experience working on IDOT projects
