Holy Trinity Catholic Church
Lenexa, Kansas
Structural design was an important consideration in the design of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The impressive church rises to a height of 66 feet, making it the focal point of Holy Trinity’s 4.5-acre campus and reflecting its distinct function as a place of worship and fellowship. The architecture features exposed wood arches that form a 92-ft clear span over the structure, giving a grand scale to the worship space and the adjacent 2,800-sf narthex or lobby area.
The 29,000-sf church seats 1,200 in the 15,700-sf fan-shaped sanctuary and includes a 50-seat cry room and a 32-seat choir. Natural materials and natural lighting are integrated into the design to create a sense of warmth and welcome. Yellow pine decking with a light-reflective stain finish brightens the interior walls, while large translucent triangular panels form the gable ends on three sides of the structure and provide generous natural lighting.
GBA provided structural engineering design on the project. The firm also provided architectural, landscape architectural, and all other engineering design services.
