175th Street and I-35

Kansas City, Kansas

This existing interchange was completely reconstructed to conform with current AASHTO design requirements. The existing bridge on 175th/US-56 was replaced with two 4-span, 440-ft-long steel plate girder structures. The bridge is five lanes wide to accommodate increased traffic volume in the area as a result of urban growth.

This project included reconstruction of all ramps contained in the interchange. A free-flow loop ramp for eastbound 175th Street to northbound I-35 traffic was provided. Also, approximately one mile of 175th Street was reconstructed as a part of this project. Increasing traffic flow, along with close proximity to existing and future intersections associated with future development were key design considerations.
