The Kansas City Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners selected GBA to assist with the planning, design, and construction management of a new entrance to the Kansas City Zoo. Parking, roadways, storm drainage improvements, utilities, lighting, security, and incorporation with architects’ plans for the new entry complex were project objectives. A major goal of phase one design was to provide Starlight Theater with additional parking facilities for employees and performer crews, and to enhance the drainage to avoid localized flooding.
Working directly with the Zoo, Starlight Theater, and park staffs, as well as with architects for the new zoo master plan, GBA helped formulate a workable entrance plan that satisfied all parties.
