National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents
NEPA is and environmental decision-making process required when major construction or site modification projects are undertaken by Federal, State, Local, and other agencies as well as private development that are funded in whole or in part by Federal funds. The process consists of a step-by-step evaluation of the impact of the project on the total environment.
As part of the process,
Alternatives must be reviewed to evaluate the potential impacts to the environment.
Each alternative must be considered by project decision makers prior to initiating the work.
The public at large plays a key role in the NEPA procss, provding input at public hearings and public review of NEPA documents throughout the decision-making process.
