Developers of The Wilderness, a 460-acre upscale residential community located in Overland Park, Kansas, are utilizing the natural features of the land to create a unique community with special emphasis on open space, unobstructed views, and an informal, interconnected walkway system. The project, located on rolling terrain with south-facing slopes, includes natural drainage ways, lakes, and rock outcroppings, and is bounded on the south by the Blue River.
GBA provided planning, landscape architecture, and engineering design services for the project. The firm was also responsible for designing wetlands and native prairie areas, which were constructed as a science study area for the Blue Valley School District and as a wetland banking system.
