Targeting LEED Silver Certification with the US Green Building Council, the new facility will be located on 37 acres. The site features a 36,000 sf fleet maintenance building, a 13,000 sf heated vehicle storage building, a fuel wash building, covered vehicle and equipment storage, a recycling transfer station, communications tower, fire burn tower, and police training. The site also includes rain gardens, bio-swales, bio-retention field, detention pond, plant storage, salt / sand / CMA loading, and parking. The public focal point of the Service Center is the 56,000-sf, two-story administration, shops and community building. The aesthetics of the facility from the public view are of extreme importance, and reflect the city’s keen awareness of the prominent location of the site and need to showcase the forward-thinking ideals embodied in the operations of the buildings through the design.
The new facility will consolidate the services of multiple city departments that are currently housed at various locations, reducing redundancies and promoting coordination and efficiency. Some of the departments include facilities management, street maintenance, traffic maintenance, engineering inspectors, fleet maintenance, park maintenance, and police / fire department tactical training.
The fleet maintenance building will service all city vehicles, and feature vehicle repair bays, tire storage, overhead bridge crane, chasis wash bay, paint booth, body shop, fabrication shop, and parts / tools storage. The fuel and wash station, which receives daily traffic from all city vehicles, is placed near the west entry, and can be accessed without disrupting operations.
GBA provided site master plan layout design, architectural and engineering schematic design, cost estimating, and construction phasing plans.
