University of Kansas

Parking Structure #2 — Lawrence, Kansas

This five-level, four-bay parking structure blends with and enhances the architectural character of the university as well as provides students, faculty and visitors additional parking options. The exterior design incorporates spandrels set between the columns along with a variety of precast shapes to produce the desired visual effect. Colored concrete panels and a light sand blast finish were added to the exterior to accent the architectural structures of both the Student Union and the Adams Alumni Center.

  • 820 Spaces Available
  • 244 ft wide by 270 ft long
  • Designed to allow for a future Student Union expansion
  • Designed to allow for two levels of vertical expansion

The parking garage was designed to comply with ACI 362 Zone 3 requirements. The top level of the structure was terraced to minimize the height of the west elevation and ensure positive visual impact. The structure includes two entrances and two exits, an elevator tower and a pedestrian bridge.

Carl Walker, Inc. served as the parking consultant for this project.

GBA provided architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection and traffic engineering services.
