Round Grove and Little Shoal Watershed Studies

Kansas City, Missouri

GBA utilized the GIS base mapping from Kansas City, Missouri, to develop updated storm sewer mapping for the Water Service Department. Both projects roughly covered 10 square miles of watershed, Little Shoal is an undeveloped area north of the Missouri River just west of Liberty, Missouri and Round Grove watershed lies just east of I-435 and south of I-70 south of the River and includes Kauffman and Arrowhead stadiums. The project goals were to identify water quantity and quality issues and recommended solutions for both within the watershed boundaries. The updated mapping included the following items that had to be incorporated into the City’s existing GIS mapping levels and database:

  • Watershed and subarea boundary delineations
  • Existing and future land use coverages
  • Soil types
  • Location of existing enclosed system, culverts and bridges and open channels
  • Location of proposed improvements to the enclosed system, culverts and bridges and open channels
  • Floodplain limits
  • Locations of endangered buildings
