Johnson County Wastewater selected GBA to provide engineering, surveying, and construction period services for a new pump station, associated gravity sewer, and forcemain. The work included construction of the pump station expandable to 3,700-gpm, 20,000 lf of gravity sewer, and 5,600 lf of forcemain. According to GBA Project Manager and Associate Bill Carter, P.E., a great deal of thought went into each phase of design and construction.
"The site was readily visible from Johnson Drive, a major thoroughfare, as well as from adjacent private properties," he noted. The pump station was set back into a hillside and screened with landscaping to buffer it from the surrounding area. Careful consideration was given to the selection of materials for the building. To protect the adjacent lake and wetlands, erosion control techniques were implemented during construction. Special backfill was utilized around the forcemain to protect the integrity of the dam and lake.
