This project was implemented in an effort to improve the integrity of Monterey Way to a collector type street from 15th Street to Harvard Road in Lawrence, Kansas. The City and KDOT were both interested in providing traffic calming measures for this project. It was decided that a roundabout be constructed at the intersection of Monterey Way with Harvard Road.
GBA's responsibilities included the initial traffic engineering analysis and reviewing the results to determine lane configurations. GBA provided the horizontal alignment design for Monterey Way, the layout of the roundabout, traffic signal design at 15th Street and Monterey Way, pavement marking and signage, and construction sequencing. GBA was also responsible for the street lighting design at the roundabout and provided assistance in LPA construction inspection services for the installation of the proposed traffic signal and roundabout improvements.
