GBA recently completed a three-year “on-call” contract for fire protection services at Kansas State University. Projects under this contract included a life safety study of classrooms and residence halls. Issues addressed include egress path evaluation, fire code compliance, evaluation of fire barrier, and air handling / smoke transmission. GBA developed alternative solutions to correct deficiencies.
Additional services included:
- Hydraulic design of a wet-pipe sprinkler system extension and design of a gas (Inergen) suppression system for a computer facility
- Design of a fire alarm system for a small manufacturing facility
- Research and analysis of the residence halls' stairwell doors
GBA accompanied the State Fire Marshal on his annual campus-wide inspection to gain an early understanding of the concerns to assist the University in prioritizing future projects. GBA performed Building Code and Life Safety Code plan reviews for ongoing campus projects.
