GBA’s Tommy Renfro, P.E.,
GBA is proud to announce that Tommy Renfro, P.E., Project Engineer in our Transportation Market, has been named the 2025 Myron Calkins Young Leader of the Year by the American Public Works Association (APWA) Kansas City Metro Chapter.
This distinguished award recognizes young public works professionals who demonstrate outstanding leadership, dedication to the profession and commitment to their communities. As a roadway designer and project manager for municipal and DOT clients across Kansas and Missouri, Tommy exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose and innovation.
Since joining GBA in 2019, Tommy has played a critical role in delivering sustainable transportation infrastructure solutions across the region. He champions innovation, training engineers on new design technologies and mentoring interns and early-career professionals.
Outside of his technical contributions, Tommy serves as Chair of the APWA Chapter Meetings Committee, where he organizes educational events that keep public works professionals connected and informed. His efforts have helped the KC Metro Chapter maintain its streak of Presidential Award for Chapter Excellence (PACE) wins.
“Tommy is thoughtful, driven and a natural young leader,” said John Cooper, Senior Vice President at GBA. “This award is a reflection of the impact he’s already made and the bright future he has in public works.”
