GBA Awarded ACPA Excellence in Concrete Paving
The American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) has proudly recognized the contributions of GBA, Emery Sapps & Sons and the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) as award winners in the State Roads category for their outstanding work on the KDOT US-169 Neosho and Allen County Project. Out of all projects submitted from across the nation, this project distinguished itself as one of the top 31, competing both locally and nationally.
In addition to this remarkable achievement, the project was honored with the Missouri/Kansas Chapter ACPA’s State Roads Category Best PCC Pavement Constructed in 2022 award.
The Project: US 169 Neosho/Allen Counties
The KDOT US-169 project scope encompassed the study and review of improvement alternatives and the management of traffic handling throughout the construction process. A discovery phase report was also prepared for pavement replacement.
The project involved the reconstruction of the existing pavement, coupled with enhancements to bridges and interchange ramps that included bearing repairs and painting, strip seal replacement, pier concrete repair, construction staging, traffic control and quantity calculations.
The GBA team also provided survey services, including supplementary topographical data obtained through aerial mapping techniques.
The American Concrete Pavement Association Awards
The ACPA Annual Awards for Excellence in Concrete Pavement are designed to honor quality concrete pavements constructed annually in the United States and Canada. The awards program encourages high-quality workmanship in every concrete pavement project and serves as a forum for sharing information about highly successful projects. ACPA formally recognizes the project and team at their Annual Excellence in Concrete Paving Awards Banquet.
